The Tax Manager must display a potential to lead, work well with clients and firm members, and have the ability to delegate and get jobs done. The Manager is a decision maker who displays firm loyalty, a take charge attitude and the willingness to teach. To perform the job successfully, an individual must be detail oriented, disciplined, and highly organized. The marketing aspects of the job require the individual to possess good communication skills, be comfortable with public speaking, and project a professional image that reflects on the Firm as a whole.

Our ideal Manager has 8+ years of strong tax experience in public accounting. This candidate is up-to-date on current tax practices and changes in law. The Manager manages all tax engagements. The Manager recommends federal, state, local strategies, and researches new strategies. This Manager will have contact with Clients (both business and individuals) throughout the year and maintains visibility in the local community as well as assisting with new business development.
Experience with Thomson Reuters and Intuit software products is strongly desired. The applicant must have experience with overseeing multiple engagements, reviewing tax returns, supervising and assist in staff development.
Tax Manager is expected to:
Be technically current and proficient in multiple area(s) of tax – individuals/business, estate/trusts.
Adhere to, implement and participate in the development of Firm’s policies and procedures and all of the Firm’s services.
Provide staff leadership both technically and professionally.
Be responsible for acquiring new clients and maintaining and enhancing services to existing clients by promoting additional services.
Participate as requested in the Firm’s planning and development.
Maintain professional contacts with the profession and community to grow the Firm through development of referral networks and by actively promoting the Firm through lectures, seminars and other public events.
Demonstrated ability to handle and deal professionally with client and personnel.
Plan, supervise, and complete multiple engagements.
Develop and monitor engagement budgets.
Review engagement work papers, final products, and keep the Partner informed of all important developments in the engagement.
Maintain the client relationship.
Maintain high standard of technical awareness through CPE, research and further reading.
Prepare client billing.
Participate in reviews of Accountants throughout the year
Assist in training staff accountants
Interview and enroll prospective clients.
Education & Certification/License Credentials:
Bachelor Degree in Accounting, Finance or related field
Masters in Taxation or pursing a Masters in Taxation is ideal
Certified Public Accountant (CPA) in good standing.
Functional Competencies - Skills, Knowledge & Experience:
8+ years tax experience in Public Accounting.
Three+ years as supervisory accountant.
Computer literate and expertise with various computer software applications:
Thomson Tax & Accounting Suite of Products (including CS Accounting, UltraTax, Planner CS, Practice, File Cabinet Solution, MS Office, Adobe Acrobat and QuickBooks among others.
Leadership & Management/Behavioral Competencies:
Strong leadership, mentoring and staff development skills.

Candidate will meet with the Chief Operating Officer to go over the Firm culture, HR items and a tour of the office.
Personality and aptitude test.
Candidate will meet with Partners to discuss the position, expectations, etc.
Candidate will meet with an Accountant to find out what it is like to work at Davis & Hodgdon Associates CPAs.
*Depending on schedule, the whole process may happen in one meeting or be split into two
meetings, whichever option is more convenient for the candidate.
